Morris County Surrogate Darling Celebrates Read Across America

Published on March 03, 2026

Morris County Surrogate Heather Darling celebrated Read Across America today at the Morris County Library where she read to toddlers. Morris County chose the theme of America’s 250th Birthday for this annual educational event. Surrogate Darling read “The Story of America’s Birthday” by Patricia A. Pingry and pointed out to the group that the Surrogate originally received authority in the colony of New Jersey to serve from the King through the Archbishop of London (1710) as the colonies were led by the King of England.

Surrogate Darling said “I am thrilled that once again I have had the opportunity to participate in this important event. It was my pleasure to sit with these young children and have fun reading and pointing out the pictures. Read Across America is aimed at fostering a lifelong love of reading and it is never too early to start reading to the little ones.”
